This
area of Andalucía is particularly famous for its white towns, and Cortijo El
Peso is close to many of these. The area is rich in history, having been the final frontier for the Reconquest (when the
Catholics drove the Moors from Spain in the 15th century) and many
of the villages, including nearby Gaucín, still have the remains of Moorish
castles.
Further back in time, the area was once occupied by the Romans, and Roman remains have been
found on the farm. Gaucín
is well known for its panoramic views of southern Spain, and on a clear day (of
which there are many) you can easily see the sea, Gibraltar, and the coast of
Africa. (See information on Gaucín). Málaga
airport is two hours’ drive, served by a many of the budget and charter
airlines as well as the major carriers.
Gibraltar airport is only one hour’s drive – served by GB/British Airways
and Monarch. Car hire is recommended, we can put you in touch with local hire companies if necessary. For more details on travel arrangements and car hire click here To see a map click here.
